This beautiful book leads us beyond the tired platitudes of a faded Christendom. It brings insights that are whole and rooted, yet are fresh and relevant to life's journey.
Ray Simpson, Founding Guardian of the international Community of Aidan and Hilda

This book of 40 Lent devotions, focused on the beliefs and ideas of Celtic Christianity, provides an interesting alternative to the usual Lent fare. Each day introduces the Celtic understanding of a portion of scripture, and is illustrated with stories about the Celtic saints, and Saga, with an invitation to contemplate the theme of the day. This is followed by a Bible reading and a prayer. There is much here to provide food for thought during the period of Lent, including a comparison of the Celtic way of seeing the cross as Jesus triumphing over evil, with the later Roman Church's substitution atonement theology: something that continues to divide Christians today. Despite finding some of Cole's sentence structures rather clumsy with the overuse of parenthesis, I feel that this book would be a useful aid to our everyday Lenten contemplations, as well as offering insights into the Celtic way of thinking.
