'During Lent we are accompanying Christ in a unique way; on a journey that will lead to his death entirely for our sake... Although we are spared all of his agony, it is a time for us to pause and reflect, to pray and above all, stay very close to Jesus.'

This is a book of readings that takes a deeper look at six themes particularly relevant to the weeks before Easter: holiness, relationship, forgiveness, sacrifice, hope and love. While God's message is for all time - not just for Lent - at this time of year we are called in a special way to follow him, to take up our cross, and to enter into the mysteries of Christ's suffering. Most of all we are asked to show the world pure love, as Jesus did in the sacrifice of his own self for our salvation.

The Promise of Easter also contains helpful and creative spiritual exercises and suggestions for art images that can be used to aid reflection.

Fleur Dorrell is Head of Faith & Policy at the Mothers' Union, which involves enriching MU members in their faith and spirituality and campaigning on social justice and faith issues affecting women and families worldwide. She is a qualified Spiritual Director and is also the author of The Promise of Christmas: Reflections for the Advent Season (BRF, 2007).
